A sum of $6,000 has been entered for the paving

with mastic asphalte of Bonham Strand West which is occupied by some of the leading Chinese firms in the Colony.

Item 21, 24,000, makes provisions for the construct- ion of a short length of road to connect the road leading to the houses recently erected on Inland Lot 1947, Leighton Hill, with the Leighton Hill Road.

Item 22, 83,000, is provided to continue and com- plete the improvement of the Wong-nei-chong Road as far as its

junction with Wong-Hei-chong Gap Road necessitated by the erection of several houses on lots adjoining the road.

As regards items 23, 24 and 25 I would refer you to

my remarks to the Council.

Drainage. The provision of $5,000 (out of a total cost of

89,400) for training the nullahs at Mount Kellett is the result of

complaints received from residents in the locality, of mosquitoes infesting the neighbourhood.

On the recommendation of the Sanitary Board I have inserted a sum of $7,000 for training the nullahs at Aberdeen where malaria has been prevalent.

The sum entered under item 26(d) is for the continua

-tion of nullah-training in the vicinity of Magazine Gap as an anti-malarial measure.

The extension of two nullahs east and west of Inland

Lot 1926, Wong-nei-chong Village, for which 89,700 is provided, is necessitated by the proposed erection of buildings for residential purposes in the locality. Of the amount inserted, 1,500 is for compensation for buildings to be removed in consequence of the projected work.

Lighting.

A sum of 8350 has been included for the electric lighting of the public streets in Shaukiwan which are at present

unlit.
